Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas - Ait Benhaddou - Dades Valley

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad, your private driver/guide will pick you from your Riad/Hotel in Marrakech at around 8 am. You’ll embark on a journey that you’ll treasure forever as it aims to shed light on the best of Morocco. Have a nice drive through the lush High Atlas Mountains with its traditional”Berber” Villages by the edge of the mountains. The views from here are impressive offering great opportunities for memorable shots.

After crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260 m), you’ll have a guided walking tour of the UNESCO listed Ait Benhaddou Village. This masterpiece of architecture has been used as a perfect backdrop for shooting many national & international celebrities such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky, Kingdom of Heaven & much more. After lunch, you’ll continue on the track to the Dades Valley through Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa), the palm oasis of Skoura & the Valley of Roses.

Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Merzouga & Camel Ride

Today, we will head to the Sahara Desert of Merzouga while including a short break in the impressive Todra Gorge (Canyon). This high cliff has been an attraction for mountain climbers along with the locals who are accustomed to escaping the heat weather while enjoying the cooler one. The ever-flowing river & the stunning views offer great possibilities for a soft hike.

After lunch near the palm oasis of Tinejdad, you’ll drive through Erfoud to Merzouga. A warm welcome with mint tea to freshen up before getting prepared for the highlight of the day. Your camel ride experience through the soft golden sand dunes to attend the majestic view of the sunset. Our desert camp staff will welcome you with a delicious dinner followed by time for local musical percussion before culminating the day with a peaceful sleep within your private en-suite tent or under the stars.

Day 3: Explore The Desert Area

Early wake up in the morning to attend the miraculous view the sunrise above the sand dune. After having breakfast under the sunlight or inside the restaurant, you’ll take shower to freshen up yourself before getting prepared for spending most of the day exploring what the desert area has to offer. You’ll initially learn about the traditional system of irrigation known as Khetarras & how it has been effective in maintaining the irrigation of the oasis & sourcing water for the locals. 

You’ll have a drive by the giant sand dunes crossing Merzouga Village to Khamlia where you’ll have time for entertainment with the Gnawa spiritual music. You’ll then have a complete circuit around the sand dune field of Erg Chebbi with the possibility to include a visit to a nomad family so that you can enrich your knowledge about the deep-seated lifestyle of the nomads and how they have been able to endure the harshness of nature.

After lunch, you’ll drive back to the comfortable Riad, Auberge, Hotel by the edge of the sand dunes where you can have time for relaxing or chilling out to get prepared for the next day’s adventure.

Day 4: Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Midelt - Ifran - Fes

After having breakfast in your Riad/hotel, you’ll head north to the spiritual city of Fes. You’ll have a short break for taking pictures of the panoramic palm valley of Ziz. Cross the administrative city of Errachidia, then the impressive Ziz Gorge before having lunch in the city of Midelt. Have a drive through the lush Middle Atlas Mountains with its UNESCO preserved cedar forest that host a colony of the endangered Barbary Apes that you can possibly see & even feed.

You’ll then stretch your legs in the charming city of Ifran (often called the Moroccan Switzerland version city). You’ll reach Fes in the late afternoon. 

Day 5: Guided Day Tour of Fes

Today, you’ll have an interesting guided of what Fes has to offer. Your local tour guide will share with you his/her knowledge of this authentic city. Enjoy the views of the Fes el-Bali (Oldest Fes), this UNESCO listed Medina as a World Heritage Site is the largest car-free district in the world. Cars have no space here & only mules and donkeys are the only means of transportation. Take pictures by the golden gates of the Royal Palace, then stretch your legs in the vibrant Jewish Mellah (Quarter) where you’ll learn about the role that the Jews played in turning Fes into a main commercial center.

Now, it’s time to get inside the vibrant & the authentic Fes el-Bali. You’ll visit the local museums, pass by the old Medersas (Koranic Schools) including the Qarawiyyin University & Mosque (The Oldest University in the Islamic World). Visit the Chouara Tanneries where you can learn about how leather is being made using traditional methods & ingredients. Your tour guided will escort you back to your Riad in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Fes - Rif Mountains - Ouazzane - Chefchaouen

After having breakfast in your Riad, you’ll continue on the track further north with a nice drive through the spectacular Rif Mountains that offers majestic views. We will include many breaks for chilling out & for taking pictures. Cross the city of Ouazzane before reaching the blue-painted city of Chefchaouen in the late afternoon.  You may want to stretch you legs in the evening to get a first glimpse of this unique but charming city. 

Day 7: Full-Day Exploring Chefchaouen

Today, you will spend most of the day meandering around the blue-painted streets of Chefchaouen Medina starting from the vibrant Utta Hammam, which is located in the heart of the Medina. You may want to visit the Kasbah (fortress) where you can learn that it’s the reason behind the foundation of Chefchaouen by the warrior Moulay Ali Ibn Rashid to organize attacks against the Portuguese & Spanish invaders. Continue on the track to the Ras el-Ma Spring offering stunning views with local women washing clothes & carpets. You may want to have a soft hike up to the mosque where you can get a complete view of the old Medina of Chefchaouen.

In the afternoon, you may want to have lunch in a local restaurant in the Utta el-Hammam Square while watching the passers-by and sampling the unique cultural lifestyle.  

Day 8: Chefchaouen - Tangier

Today marks the end of our 8 days desert tour from Marrakech to Tangier. After having breakfast in your Riad, you’ll drive to the mysterious city of Tangier through the lush Rif Mountains.
